Travel Guide For Blue Ridge Mountains VA

A trip out to Blue Ridge Mountains VA is not really as adventurous as it seems to be. These are hallowed grounds for history buffs and fans of Thomas Jefferson, with over a half-million annual visitors each year making their way to his plantation home. It’s no big surprise that the facilities in the mountain foothills are quite impressive.

These facilities include several excellent hotels specifically convenient for Monticello visitors. Monticello, by the way, is the name of Thomas Jefferson’s mountain plantation. But before getting to the accommodations, maybe it would be better to cover the best ways for visitors to reach here, and some of the other things to see.

The fastest way is to fly in straight to Charlottesville-Albemarle airport. There are daily flights from here to Atlanta, Detroit, Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York. Another easy way in is to drive from Richmond, a 70 mile trip.

Then there are the Blue Ridge Parkway roadtrippers and national park visitors on their way to or from Shenandoah. The place where America’s Favorite Drive ends at Shenandoah is only 22 miles from here. For these outdoor loving travelers, a comfortable hotel stay with a mountain view offers a perfect end to a long road trip.

Many hikers braving the Appalachian Trail also end their hike or take a break hereabouts. Before heading back, they usually spend some time going around and see all the landmarks, including the Natural Bridge and Monticello. It goes without saying that this lot too will enjoy a hotel in the mountain foothills.

For its part in the itinerary, Charlottesville also has a nice collection of attractions for visitors, like the Paramount Theater & the long and historic Downtown Pedestrian Mall. The Univ. Of Virginia is of course a huge attraction and well worth a look-see. A local sight-seeing tour can then be wrapped up with a visit to the homes of James Monroe (Ashlawn-Highlands) and James Madison (Montpelier).

Visitors who need all the modern amenities and facilities for a hotel stay have no worries, because hotels here are well on par with industry-wide standards. Hotel guests will get everything from free high-speed internet to onsite restaurants and outdoor pools. Fitness centers are also commonly available, as are business centers and meeting rooms for those who need to conduct business while on the road.

Family visitors will probably like it a lot more, because most hotels here are pet friendly and offer laundry/dry-cleaning services with daily housekeeping. Many even have a ‘Kids Eat Free’ program going on at onsite restaurants. The bottom line is that a visit to Blue Ridge Mountains VA is likely to be just as memorable for its natural beauty and landmarks as it is for the level of service and quality of the facilities for visitors.
