As a college student, could you ever imagine your life without the internet? How would you write and print out your papers, instantly talk to your friends at other college campuses and send emails to your parents to update them about your health? The world would be a much smaller and complicated place without internet access.

The internet links you to other people and gains you access to worldwide information within seconds, so if you’re going to join a study abroad program then you need to make sure that you have an international internet access provider to keep you up-to-date with your host country, as well as with what’s going on back at home.

Accessing the Internet at Your Host School

If you walk onto a college campus, it would be strange if you did not see students taking notes with their laptop, professors using the internet as part of their daily lesson or entire groups of students researching their latest paper on a computer in the library. The internet is just too important, and college life would be impossible without it!

What is amazing is how the use of the internet transcends across the globe to international universities. Almost every university around the world offers internet access to their students, whether it’s located in a computer lab or through a wireless service for students with laptops.

It is especially important for you as a study abroad student to have internet access while on campus if you have not brought your own personal computer. That’s because the only way for you to search the web or to contact people back at home would be while you are at your host school’s campus.

You should always check with your host school to see if they have some kind of facility set up for you to gain access to the internet. Some university study abroad programs even provide laptops to their study abroad students for the length of their stay, so you should always ask the study abroad program director about this incentive.

Staying in Touch on Your Own

You will definitely need international internet access if you’re going to study abroad for a semester, but even if you just do a summer study abroad program for a couple of weeks, you will still need the internet to help you find the hot spots in your host country, to help you translate beyond any language barriers and to communicate with anyone back in the U.S.

So if you’ve brought your own personal computer, such as a laptop, you want to make sure that it has wireless Wi-Fi capabilities so that you will have international WiFi internet access no matter where you go. That means you will be able to take your computer to cyber cafes, bookstores or other public places and access the internet without any problems.

In order to gain access wherever you go in your host country you need to have an international internet access provider, such as MaGlobe, which provides internet access around the world.

MaGlobe and other international internet access providers offer a prepaid service that you can access no matter where you travel, and the service often comes with a free email account and easy setup instructions. If you’re going to have your own personal computer with you while you study abroad, you must have an international internet access provider plan in place before you leave.

Other Modes of International Internet Access

Computers are not the only way to gain international internet access. If you decide to take your cell phone with you to your host country as a means of international calling , you might be able to use it to gain access to the internet.

Your phone needs to have GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) technology, which is a type of wireless system that transmits frequency bands to give your cell phone access to the internet in over 200 countries such as Europe, Africa and Asia.

Over 600 millions people around the world use this new global system, so if you do plan to study abroad you should make sure that it is installed in your cell phone.

You also need to make sure that your cell phone plan includes international calls. It’s much more convenient to gain international internet access through your phone rather than carrying around a big laptop computer.

PDA’s (Personal Digital Assistants) are great if you’re a college student on the go. These devices, which are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, allow you to store personal contact information, to track appointments and to take notes, and many also connect you to the internet.

You can either connect them to your personal computer to transfer files and gain access to internet, or if they already have wireless capabilities, you can use them to gain WiFi internet access wherever there is wireless networking. You can use the prepaid internet provider MaGlobe to access the internet on your PDA.

When you join a study abroad program it’s very important to have international internet access. With the internet you’ll be able to easily access your host school’s web site if you need to find a number to contact someone, and you can even look up information about places to visit in your free time.

Most importantly, it’s the best way to connect to your friends and family back home.

Dubai, the most populated city of the United Arab Emirates has awed the world with marvelous constructions, an exploding economy, Guinness records, and its ever growing desire of magnificence. But what now? With so many projects already in process, what else can Dubai offer to people seeking to reside within its breathtaking environment? The answer is simple, Dubai plans on developing its infrastructure more, plans on enhancing the experience of those residing within and those who might be visiting its territory. Besides, it looks forward to settling itself further as one of the focal points for the world’s economy.

Whether you were looking forward to private accommodation, or you just had a desire of visiting and staying in one of those many world class hotels of Dubai; this was the right time to start working out with your plans. The ongoing economic boom has resulted in sharp spurt of real estate prices, and thus given a foothold to many construction giants from all over the world. This has ensured Dubai did have world class hotels, apartments and other infrastructure of advanced nature. There is no other region in the entire Gulf or anywhere around that might be witnessing the kind of construction boom Dubai has been able to see during these last several years.

Some of the key infrastructural developments taking place within Dubai are Palm Islands, The World, Dubai Marina, Dubai Waterfront, Dubai Land and The Burj Dubai Complex. These have been devised not only to take care of the accommodation demands, residential and commercial both, but are also aimed at growing as a very advanced infrastructure. With the construction firms of the stature of WS Atkins, taking part in many of these multi-billion dollar activities, the immediate future of Dubai’s urban growth looks to be quite pleasant right now. There are enough signs from within the government on its part, that the growth will continue to have the kind of support they have been providing with through all these years.

Some key urban plans aimed at projecting Dubai as a world class destination include The Dubai Metro, The Dubai Mall and Business Bay. We are going to take a quick look and try to know what each of these means for Dubai’s future growth:

(1) The Dubai Metro, a $3.9 billion mega project will be one of its own kind on this planet when fully functional by the year 2012. It has been planned not only to ease out the daily traffic congestion, but also aimed at raising the city’s tourism prospects. All major sections of Dubai will come within its periphery, once the metro begins functioning in the next few years.

(2) The Dubai Mall, already scheduled to be completed before the end of 2006, will be the world’s largest shopping mall yet. The Dubai Mall will cover more than 12 million square feet and has already acquired 5 construction awards: Best Use of Lightning, Best Retail Development Scheme, Best Brochure, Best Art and Graphic Design and the Judges Special Recognition award.

(3) Business Bay, the main business area currently under construction for the city, will be the home of several skyscrapers, commercial spots, and intense economic activities. Besides, some Dubai hotels will also be given a foothold within these property blocks.

While undertaking such major developments, the city of Dubai will have to overcome many challenges lying ahead on the path of modernization. One of the major concerns is the quality of accommodation available for some of the lowly paid workers from South East Asian countries. The planners of Dubai will have to make sure they are not overlooked while the rest of Dubai enjoys unbound luxury. But, that is what all major cities of the world have had to go through until gaining invisibility. Dubai has already advanced well into that territory. There is no moving back now as we see some exciting developments of the future unfolding with each passing day.

Scotland’s main air hub Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) can be found about eight miles of the city. The airport has one terminal, which operates services to significant centres throughout Great Britain, America, Europe, and Asia. All international and national arrivals are positioned on the ground floor, while outlets and dining establishments are chiefly situated on the first floor.

As a project manager I have to make many short business trips across the year. I frequently use the Edinburgh International from where I fly to mainly domestic destinations. I always drive to the airport with my own car so the availability of good parks is essential to me. The services the parking agencies provide are in general quite good and I can now this because throughout the years I have parked my car nearly at all of them. Location and parking fees are the only factors that aren’t similar. I hope my experiences with parking at Edinburgh Airport might be of some kind of assistance to you.

The best experiences I had with the three available services which I will describe below.

Just a stone’s throw away (500 yards) from the terminal building you can find the largest off airport parking amenity which is professionally run by Secure Airparks. Transfers to the terminal are provided on request and are available day and night. The travel time is just one minute. The excellently secured parking facility was awarded with the Secure Car Parks Award.

Park and Fly offer good value airport car parking services as well. Their car park is just a short coach voyage away from Edinburgh International Airport’s terminal building. The park is very well secured. There are 24 hour man patrols and an infra-red system covers the entire perimeter which is securely fenced as well. For your convenience Park and Fly operates a frequent shuttle bus service which is available around the clock and each day of the following a route to and from the airport terminal building. The ride takes approximately five to ten minutes depending on the intensity of traffic.

The laid-back Meet and Greet parking option is operated by Secure Airparks as well. Secure Airparks can send someone to meet you as you arrive at the airport. A company’s representative will safely park your car while you continue with your check-in procedure and they have your vehicle ready for you at the moment you return from your holiday or business trip.

Due to my intensive travelling I know by now that arranging airport parking through the internet is really the best way. Not only it gives you peace of mind but it will save you a couple of pounds too. I guess all regular fliers know that airport parking is quite pricy so getting a discounted fee is a nice benefit. The booking services on the internet which I will mention below are a few of the best online providers. If you want to make your travelling more laid-back I highly advice these as they offer efficient, rapid, secure, and easy services. What’s more relaxed than booking your car parking while sitting in your comfortable lazy chair at home?

Goa is the smallest state in India and the former Portugal colony. Portuguese merchants first landed in Goa in the 16th century and very soon colonised it. The Portuguese colony existed for approximately 450 years, until it became a part of India in 1961. Some people consider Goa the most beautiful place in Asia or, even, in the whole world. Goa is the embodiment of the paradise on the Earth! Blue ocean, white beaches, palms and all the tropical exotic combined with the traces of Indian history make this place one the centres of the attraction in India. From the October here begins high tourist season – monsoons have already finished but the heat is not as intolerable as in spring. So it’s just the time to visit this peace of heaven in one the biggest countries in the world! Goa is separated in two parts – Northern and Southern. People seeking for the entertainment prefer Northern Goa, and people looking for tranquility prefer the South of the state. The Northern Goa is famous for its clubs, its beach parties and its hippy communes. Many people, coming here prefer never come back to their homes. Here they found their happiness. Anjuna is one of the best beaches in Northern Goa. It gets very busy from November onwards with tourists of varied types flocking to this otherwise simple village. The Southern part of Goa is mainly known for its outstanding beaches and prestigious hotels. This is the place for well-to-do western tourists. However there is a lot to see in Goa except beaches and discos. Its ancient history makes Goa quite an interesting place for those who love old ruins, ancient legends and entertaining excursions. Panaji is lovely state capital which has retained its Portuguese heritage in a lived-in, knockabout kind of way and exudes an aura more reminiscent of the Mediterranean than of India. 17th-century Braganza House is another example of the Portuguese-era glory. The 16th-century World Heritage-listed Vittala Temple is the magnificent highlight of the ruins. It is still unfinished, but the temple’s incredible sculptural work is the masterpiece of Vijayanagar art. Overlooking the mouth of the Mandovi River, Fort Aguada occupies a magnificent position, its strategic value confirmed by the fact that it was never taken by force. This is a very popular spot for watching the sunset. The Bom Jesus Basilica holds the mortal remains of St Francis Xavier. The church is located in Old Goa, which was the capital of Goa in the early days of Portuguese rule. Christmas holydays are coming so for those who would like to escape from the winter the evergreen destination of Goa is an ideal choice.

Mingling of peoples of different heritages and cultures in Europe has not always been positive. Throughout history, the conquest of various peoples and places has often resulted in oppression and exploitation of minorities.

Yet multiculturalism is of growing significance, with the development of the European Union and the Schengen Agreement, which gives EU residents more freedom to travel quickly across country borders. There’s a new wave of economic migration across Europe, and it affects all of the countries.

As the Czech Republic adopts the Schengen Agreement later this year and continued strong economic growth leads to shortages in particular areas of its work force, the issue has come to the forefront.

So what has been Australia’s experience?

Australia is a nation built on migration. Its population of 21 million has come from some 200 countries. Almost one in four of our residents was born overseas. Since World War II, we have been the third highest recipient of refugees in the world.

Most of this migration has been the result of carefully managed migration policies. Over the past 35 years, these policies have, notably, been non-discriminatory with respect to nationality, race, ethnicity, religion and sex.

Australian officials have actively encouraged and fostered multiculturalism during this time period. They have held firm to the belief that no Australian should be disadvantaged on the basis of their country of birth, cultural heritage, language, sex or religion. Migrants have been encouraged and assisted to retain and respect their heritage, including their language.

While English is our working language, almost 150 languages are taught in Australia today. Over time, our main source of migrants has shifted from Europe to Asia. People from Sudan currently make up the fastest growing birthplace group of migrants to our country.

Although Christianity is Australia’s predominant religion, other religions, including Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism, have shown the biggest proportional increase in recent years.

What has been the outcome of this experience? Has it been a positive one?

These questions were answered with an unequivocal “yes” during the recent visit to Prague by two exceptional Australians of Lebanese heritage.

The first was Professor Marie Bashir, who, as governor of Australia’s largest state, New South Wales, now occupies the first public office created in Australia. Governor Bashir also holds the honorary elected position as chancellor (rector) of Australia’s oldest university, the University of Sydney. A medical doctor, psychiatrist and administrator, her many achievements include being an Australian “mother of the year.”

The other visitor was the governor’s husband of 50 years, Sir Nicholas Shehadie. Sir Nicholas is a former captain and manager of the iconic Australian Wallabies Rugby Union team. He was the first non-Anglo-Saxon Lord Mayor of Sydney, and has been chairman of the Australian multicultural TV and radio network, SBS.

During the couple’s visit to Prague, Governor Bashir led a discussion at a dinner hosted by the Prague Society on the issue of Australia’s experience with multiculturalism.

Both the governor and Sir Nicholas exemplify the richness of Australia’s multicultural heritage. Both have achieved and contributed much to our society.

Governor Bashir spoke of the great opportunities Australia had provided for its migrants, the support it offered them to help them make difficult adjustments to a new society, including special language translation services, and the richness that our migrants have brought to our society and to our economy.

I would also argue that multiculturalism in Australia has led to the development of a cohesive, innovative, progressive and dynamic society.

Australia has been ranked as having the lowest risk of political instability in the world.
Australia ranks third in the world on the U.N. Human Development Index.
Australia is enjoying its 15th consecutive year of economic growth, growth that has been well above the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) world average.

Over the past 25 years, Australia has become one of the most open and competitive economies in the world. Our standard of living now exceeds that of all G8 countries other than the United States. For five consecutive years, it has been ranked as having the world’s most resilient economy.

Five of our state capital cities are rated by the Economist Intelligence Unit as being among the world’s top 12 “most livable cities.”

Migrants have contributed significantly to Australia’s sporting prowess, including coming in an extraordinary fourth place in the last two Olympic Games.

Migrants also contribute immensely to our rich academic, cultural and culinary life. They have, for example, been instrumental in making Australia — traditionally a beer-drinking nation — the third largest exporter of wine in the world. Our multicultural society also helps our large tourist industry and our position as a place of learning for over 300,000 international students every year.

All this is not to say that social cohesiveness is not an issue in Australia. Every now and then disruptions occur that the media is quick to attribute to ethnic tensions —although that is often only part of the story. But these disruptions are, I believe, dwarfed by the great positives that have come from our cultural diversity.

The issue of an Australian national identity is also one that has been on the government’s agenda. Indeed, in October, it will be introducing two measures to promote social cohesiveness and Australian values.

First, from mid-October, most people who apply for permanent or selected temporary visas to Australia will be required to sign a “values statement,” which confirms their commitment to abide by Australian law and to respect the Australian way of life.

Australian values include: respect for the freedom and dignity of the individual, equality of men and women, freedom of religion, commitment to the rule of law, support for parliamentary democracy, and support for freedom of speech.

Second, from Oct. 1, most migrants to Australia will need to pass a new Australian citizenship test before they can apply for Australian citizenship. The aim of the test is to ensure that new citizens can participate fully in Australian life and take advantage of the opportunities available to them.

The test is multiple choice and includes questions about the responsibilities and privileges of Australian citizenship, Australian values, Australia’s geography, history and peoples, and the Australian system of government.

Europe has given Australia much, including through migration. I would be very happy if Europe could, as it ponders its future, take a very positive message from Australia’s experience with immigration and multiculturalism.

Make your summer chilling with memorable trips to art galleries situated in the most interesting travel destinations you have dreamed of visiting. If you are an art lover there are many places worth visiting, just waiting for you to come. Most of these interesting travel destinations are full of activities and other places worth visiting, in addition to the most incredible art galleries and museums.

Apart from international travel destinations, you can arrange an all-comprehensive package tour within your homeland. An interesting tour comprising the art gallery and the museum of great wonders are available in most of the places we usually stay. Perfect travel destinations for an art lover, for example, can be highly rewarding for the person living in the U.S.A. All of them are endowed with plentiful works of art from different natures and civilizations. Not only people from all parts of the continent, but also millions of others come to visit these art galleries and museums every year. In fact, places with the art gallery have become eminent travel destinations for many art lovers who are in practice of exploring art of diverse dimensions all around the globe.

Starting from U.S.A, Europe, and Asia to many other places in the world possess a healthy collection of art galleries.

Experiencing the merging of the past into the present in Chiang Mai

where locals are proud of the city’s 700-year history. Its rich

traditional heritage and unique culture is a perfect foundation for the

development of the city. Chiang Mai is one of the few places in

Thailand where it is possible to find in the heart of the city centuries

-old chedis and temples next to modern convenience stores and

boutique hotels. The original city layout still exists as a neat square

surrounded by a moat with vestiges of the fortified wall and its four

main gates offering prime access to the old town.

For years, tourists have mistaken Chiang Mai as the northern

junction and the base from which they can explore other provinces.

The phrase “a day in Chiang Mai is enough to see things around”

was common. Today, tourists are surprised by the fact that there is

always something new to discover Chiang Mai. Intriguing diversity

among ethnic tribes coupled with breathtaking scenery makes

Chiang Mai one of Asia’s most attractive tourist destinations. Two

weeks in Chiang Mai may not be long enough for serious travelers.

The old city of Chiang Mai with its fascinating indigenous cultural

identity such as diverse dialects, cuisine, architecture, traditional

values, festivals, handicrafts and classical dances is a prime location

in its own right. In addition, the presence of hill tribes and their

wealth of unique cultures enhance Chiang Mai’s distinctive diversity.

Chiang Mai is also blessed with pristine natural resources of

mountains (dois), waterfalls, and other nature-based tourist

attractions. At the same time, Chiang Mai residents are warm,

gracious and congenial providing authentic hospitality making visits

memorable and meaningful. Moreover, visitors from all walks of life

can collect handicrafts of silk, silver and wood produced locally as

timeless souvenirs. Chiang Mai is a place where both backpackers

and luxury tourists can enjoy themselves to the fullest.

Chiang Mai literally means new city and has retained the name

despite having celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1996. King Meng

Rai founded the city as the capital of the Lanna (A Million Rice

Fields) Kingdom on Thursday, 12th April 1296 during the same

period of time as the establishment of the Sukhothai Kingdom. King

Meng Rai the Great conferred with his friends, King

Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai and King Ngam Muang of Phayao

before choosing the site where the capital of the Lanna Kingdom

was to be founded.

From then, Chiang Mai not only became the capital and cultural core

of the Lanna Kingdom, it was also the centre of Buddhism in

northern Thailand. King Meng Rai himself was very religious and

founded many of the city’s temples, which are still important today.
At the height of its power, the Lanna Kingdom extended its territory

far into Burma and Laos, and southwards to Kamphaeng Phet a

province above Sukhothai.

The Burmese conquered the Lanna Kingdom in 1556 ending the

dynasty founded by King Meng Rai that lasted over 250 years. As

Burma had occupied Chiang Mai for nearly 200 years, Burmese

architectural influences are visible in many temples. At the end of

the 18th century, King Taksin the Great regrouped the Thais in the

south and finally drove the Burmese out with the help of King Kawila

of Lampang thereby regaining Thai independence from Burma.

Chiang Mai was then governed by a succession of princes who ruled

the north as a Siamese protectorate under the Chakri dynasty. In

the late 19th century, King Rama V appointed a high commissioner

in Chiang Mai and it was only in 1939 that Chiang Mai finally came

under the direct control of the central government in Bangkok the

same time the country was renamed Thailand.

In the past, Chiang Mai was only accessible by river and elephants.

More convenient access was achieved only when the railway line

was completed in the late 1920′s. Moreover, the first motor vehicle

driven directly from Bangkok arrived in Chiang Mai in 1932. Such

isolation was more favorable to Chiang Mai as it helped to nurture

and preserve the unique Lanna culture.
When we look at Chiang Mai today, it is the economic, cultural and

communications hub of northern Thailand complete with excellent

infrastructure, good roads, by passes and road tunnels, and reliable

communications infrastructure.

Most of Chiang Mai’s mountains are oriented from north to south.

Together they create a multitude of streams and tributaries

including Mae Chaem, Mae Ngat and Mae Klang. One of Chiang

Mai’s distinctive features is Doi Inthanon, Thailands highest peak,

which is 2,575 meters above sea level. In addition, the province

boasts flat, fertile valleys, which spread along the banks of the

largest and most important river in Chiang Mai Mae Nam Ping (Ping

River) which originates from the Chiang Dao mountain range.
